There is a need for a transparent, unambiguous and procedural way to say no to Grade players who are tempted to help out their ‘mates’.
Before 2016, QSDCA Playing Regulation 4. (g) and 4. (h) (see below) used to say, for clubs with Grade and Subbies teams (e.g. Valleys, Souths, Wests), above 4th grade is out during 'the currency of the season" unless Management Committee decides to allow it.
- The term "currency of the season" is very stunningly ugly language and will not be reused. (I really hate this… in case you can’t tell…)
- QCA Grade Competition is now called QC Premier Cricket.
(VERY) OLD REGULATION | REPLACEMENT WORDING (2016) | PROPOSED NEW WORDING |
CHANGING GRADES FOR SAME CLUB, DIFFERENT COMPETITION | CHANGING GRADES FOR SAME CLUB, DIFFERENT COMPETITION
(g) Any club in this Association that has teams in any other QCA affiliated competition shall be able to register any of their players in any grade in this Association without the approval of the Management Committee – notwithstanding that a player may have played in the other competition | 4.8 Any club in the Association that also has teams in other QCA affiliated competition(s) may register any of their players in any grade in this Association without the approval of the Management Committee. | 4.8 Any club in the Association that also has teams in other QC |
– with the exception that, if the club has teams in the QCA Grade Competition, the player shall not have played in the QCA competition in any grade higher than fourth grade during the currency of the season. | 4.8.1 Any player who has played third grade or higher in QC Premier Cricket in the current or immediately previous season may not play unless granted approval by the Management Committee.
(h) In respect of Clause (g), if the subject player has played in a grade higher than fourth grade in the QCA Grade Competition during the currency of the season, approval can be sought from the Management Committee of this Association for that player to be allowed into the competition of this Association | 4.8.1 The Management Committee reserves the right to veto clearances from any player who has a record of appearing in Grade Cricket (QC or otherwise e.g. Sydney) | 4.8.2 The Management Committee reserves the right to veto clearances from any player who has a record of appearing in Premier Cricket (QC or otherwise e.g. Sydney) |
– in such case, the decision of the Management Committee shall be final. | 4.8.2 In such cases, the decision of the Management Committee will be final. | 4.8.3 In such cases, the decision of the Management Committee will be final. |
- 4.8 means no arguments... A club that has teams in Warehouse or Churches or country QC or 4th, 5th, 6th grade can shift players into any grade in Subbies without clearance. Also added clubs that have a written player swap deal with a Grade club e.g Stafford and Norths, Indooroopilly and Uni, Taringa and Wests.
- 4.8.1 Any player that has 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Grade experience from this season or last season requires approval to play in Subbies.
- 4.8.2 Any player with some record of playing grade cricket in the past (in Qld or anywhere else) can have their clearance vetoed by ManCom. (They can be approved too...if ManCom think it's ok)
- 4.8.3 No appeals.
